I’m a PhD student at the University of Washington Information School. My research is at the intersection of value sensitive design and emerging technology. Specifically, I design methods to align technology with human goals and values.
Before starting the PhD program, I was completed a Master of Library and Information Science at the UW iSchool. During that time, I took classes in data science, value sensitive design, design theory, and ethics. I had approximately one million questions at the intersection of those topics, so I decided to pursue a PhD in information science.
I [currently] identify as a design researcher working in human-computer interaction. I follow communities like FAT* , CHI, and DIS. I spend most of my working time in the Value Sensitive Design Lab or the Tech Policy Lab. Sometimes I do cool things like build Rube Goldberg machines or make books. Mostly I send memes to my friends.
